Platform One is a café that merges a relaxed, casual vibe with a menu that blurs the line between brunch spot and light gastro pub. Situated in a marquee at 2 Station Yard, it invites a diverse crowd: locals dropping in for a quick coffee, those seeking a leisurely weekend brunch, and even dogs tagged along for company. The presence of outdoor-friendly seating makes it a good spot for a mild day, though inside it offers warmth and shelter from the often blustery Askam-in-Furness weather.

The menu here operates comfortably throughout the day starting from 9:30 am, which means whether you’re popping in for breakfast or leaning towards a late lunch, options are varied and generous. Expect approachable but thoughtful dishes like avocado smash with optional poached eggs, halloumi hash browns, and more substantial items like brisket or pulled pork crumpets. The offering also includes soups such as celeriac and apple, which come with crusty bread—a small detail that speaks to a careful kitchen focus. For someone after a classic touch, their English breakfast and Sunday roasts add to the range.

Coffee lovers find Platform One appealing, with a menu that not only includes reliable staples like lattes but also offers more playful drinks, from matcha lattes to bubble tea and a variety of iced teas. The drinks tend to arrive promptly, making it a convenient stop for a caffeine fix. On busier days, the wait for food might stretch to 20-25 minutes, hinting at a kitchen that values preparation and quality over rush.

The atmosphere blends a friendly, local charm with practical warmth—heaters keep the space comfortable even on windy days. Although it can get lively and somewhat noisy when full, the overall feeling is calm and welcoming, making it easy to settle in whether alone or with friends. Platform One seems especially suited for those who appreciate a café that doesn’t just serve coffee, but comfortably handles a broad menu throughout the day in a setting where dogs are welcome and locals come to linger.

Food and service was amazing. Gluten free options were great!

Had a lovely brunch here today. The full menu runs from 9.30 am, so you are not limited whether for breakfast or for lunch, or that "im between" time, there are lots of options. I had the halloumi hash browns, and my friend had the pulled pork crumpet. All was very nicely cooked, and generously portioned. The coffee is tasty too, and there are some fancy drinks on offer as well, along with some homemade sweet treats (giant scones!). The ladies who tended to us were all pleasant. I which I had tried one of the enticing ice creams, but I had no room. We were sat outside in the sun, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We will definitely return.

I had the brisket (pictured) and my wife had the English breakfast. Both very good. The wind was blowing strongly outside so a bit noisy inside, but we were kept plenty warm enough by the heating. Friendly staff and good food and service. Definitely recommend. Edited to provide a response to owner's request: we visited on 18/4/25 at 12.30pm

This is a really nice place to eat, I popped in while working for a bit of lunch. The menu is really good, a bit different and like a gastro pub. I had the avocado with the optional poached egg (which they put two on) it was really nice. It's in a marquee and dogs are welcome. Friendly service my coffee came straight away my food took about 20 / 25 minutes I would of liked it a bit quicker but it was worth waiting for . I will definitely be coming back

Dropped in for the first time on a Friday. It was busy, but we managed to get a table ok. We were just intending to have a tea/coffee, but I saw that the soup choice was celeriac and apple. Couldn't resist, served with crusty bread, it was wonderful. Loved the coffee too. My wife had the scone, jam and cream, also excellent. The service was good with friendly staff. Can recommend Platform One. Will definitely go back.

Loved this cute little teacher box for my son's teachers. Everything looked great & it seems the teachers liked them too. Will definitely order again, maybe one for myself too

I had the Thai curry loaded chips and they were maybe the best loaded chips I've ever had. Not too spicy, a bit sweet. And totally covered in beautiful crispy veg slices and herbs. I also had an Earl grey tea and the oat milk that came with it was beautiful and sweet, it appeared homemade. Will definitely come here again. The desserts are also impressive, we had a millinares shortbread slice and it was so large we had to share it.

We popped in for coffee and cake whilst on a weekend away. Coffee was hot and strong, cakes were lovely. Now I know there was a sign saying staff in training and this is probably a personal thing but I don't like staff disturbing me when I've just enjoyed my vanilla scone asking if I've finished with my plate before I've finished my coffee. I felt we were being rushed away when it wasn't busy.
